Taking Epilepsy very SERIOUSLY
Taking Epilepsy very SERIOUSLY
There is always a chance something will happen during a seizure, you never know what will happen anytime there is a seizure, bruses, bumps, sore muscles, injured bones, head aches, cuts, black eyes, but also what is happening on the inside, think about the actions the body has to go through. I have done my research and I know that damage that can happen to a body having just one seizure, the brain, the organzes everything is involved and yes there are many who die each year due to Epilepsy.
Yes many people die each year due to Epilepsy called SUDEP sudden, unexpected death of someone with epilepsy in 2013 2,750 peole died of SUDEP there are 1 out of 1,000 who die every year of SUDEP and if seizures are uncontroled it is 1 in 150.
Do the facts scare me yes as even till this day we have not been able to get his seizures 100% undercontrol although we have been doing the very best we can, he still has seizures, not as many as he used to but he still does, this is one of the main reasons Mike and I have been working so hard to get him 100% seizure free.
1 in 150 is not good odds and this is why we battel and take chances, why we did the diet with out Doctors okay, why we choose to put him on the Cannabis oil, why we choose to get him a sun lamp and give him Vitamin D, why we have stopped cooking in the microwave, why we have stopped giving him sweetner, why we have stopped giving him pop, why we take chances, why we keep researching and continue to work on new ways to help him.
So many people suffer from Epilepsy and many have it undercontrol and many do not, I have met many people who have lost someone who died due to their epilepsy and it is just a fact that it is possible, and the possibility is more so the longer they have it and the longer they have seizures.
Seizures can kill yes it can just be that one seizure where the body has had enough and the heart gives out or any thing else that can happen, or the body just has had enough.
I read this great artical on the Washington Post speacking of this and how important it is for us to be aware of the Seriousness of this illness and I agree, we need to be aware how important it is to find a cure not just for treatment, but a cure but there is not enough research going on this illness. So every time Matt has a seizure not only does he have the chance of being out of it, not able to talk or focus or well anything he aalso has a chance of not waking up.
So how as a parent do you live with this?
For me I just think of him with love knowing that we as parents are doing everything we can, we as parents are going above and beyond what many would do for him, not always listening to the Doctors and trying new things and I know that I can not at this moment stop what is going to happen but I can always love him no matter what and every morning he wakes up is a gift for me. He woke up this morning and I am so very glad.
Ha woke up this morning and he hugged me and I am so grateful, he woke up and he is alive and I am so very grateful. I can stay in this thought and know not only does it feel better but it is such a good experiance for him for he will also feel my worry and I would rather him feel my love.
There is more reseach being done on Cannabis oil and CDB Marijuana as a cure for Epilepsy and I am so looking forward to all this research coming out as I know how much it has helped Matt and I know if we could get him as much as he needs a day I am sure we would be so close to have him seizure free.
It is time to be aware and know the facts but dont get stuck there, just know every day you have is a wonderful day to have.
