Hero are you

The other day Matt was watching some movies and as I entered the room he said to me I always wished I could be a hero, thats why I always wanted to learn karate. Matt are you aware of what a hero is?

He looks at me with open eyes his thoughts being on what many of us think a hero is someone who saves others, someone who is courageous, someone who is has special achievements.

Before he says anything I say Matt are you aware you already are a hero? You are courageous every morning you wake up not knowing what your day is going to be, you have this illness and you dont know when or how it is going to affect you but you wake up every day ready to live this day, working on being happy and doing your best to live the very best day as the very best you. in my books that is a hero, you are already a hero you are so courageous dont ever doubt that.

He became quite and was very happy and tearful thank you mom I hear and he gives me a hug.

The next morning he wakes up telling me he cried when he woke up I asked him why he shared he remembered what I said about him being courageous and I was so happy that he remembered but also that it would affect him so profoundly Tears of joy and happiness I asked him and he said yes thank you mom.

I have told him many times before that he is a hero for all he has made it through, for all he has been through and for being the person he is now and how he strives everyday to be the very best him he can be. I have tryed to help him understand this but for some reason he needed to wait till this time to hear it, to understand it and so far it is staying with him.

He wakes up every morning now proud that he is courageous and a hero to us and I am so very grateful he can see this now.
