Reading reports
Have you ever sat down and read reports of a illness, have you read the statistics?
This morning I am reading Cannabis and epilepsy from recreational abuse to therapeutic use B. Whalley you can guess what it is about by the title I am sure.
In this report Ben writes about the facts about Epilepsy and some I knew and some I didnt, I am a fact person although sometimes, some facts are hard to read in his report he brings up a question I have had for a long time could this, Matts Epilepsy have been due to this brain swelling when he was a baby? I guess i will never know the answer to this question.
He also speaks of the Premature mortality and that it is 2 to 3 times higher in epileptic patients due to Significant causes: SUDEP, status epilepticus, accidents as a consequence of seizure, aspiration pneumonia after seizure, drug toxicity and idiosyncratic ADRs and suicides. Yes this is always one of our concerns every time Matt has a seizure, will he recover well, will he fall and really hurt himself, will he begin breathing again and the list goes on and on.
Then there are the other areas Co-morbidities include: – Cognitive decline (drug and disease-related) – Anxiety – Depression – Agitation, anger and emotional outbursts – Suicide (5-15x more likely) – ADHD – Reproductive problems (make and female) – Insomnia – Migraine. I know for Matt that these are all signs for him he has had and still suffers from many of these, like when he goes into a as I call it Zombie state and cant do or say anything, or when he has a hard time calming himself because he is suffering from depression or anxiety or anger. He does speak of suicide and actually has attempted many times, loss of sleep and head aches all part of it.
In his studies Ben goes back in history and reports the first case of Cannabis use for Epilepsy and it worked and then other reports of it working and this was in 1100AD that is a long time ago he goes on to saying that although little is researched on it and there have been small clinical trials there seems to be good response when it is used and that the plant make up its self has components to help with epilepsy, he goes on to say many use it to help with the side affects of epilepsy and other use it to control seizure activity.
In the small clinical trial it stated that CBD help 7 out of 8 people with their convolutions.
You can read his report here http://www.rsb.org.uk/images/ben-whalley.pdf
This report was written in 2007 that is 10 years ago and today people with epilepsy are still not able to receive all the medication that is out there that can help them in many ways and much of it is out of their reach either because of the government making laws about it or the ability to afford it.
Being able to grow it themselves is the best way to afford it and have enough for them to live a healthy, happy life.
It is up to us to make this more possible for Matt, this is something that is helping him, it is healing him and I believe it is extending his life. Every day with out a seizure is a very good day for us all and this is due to the help of Cannabis.
Helping Matt is a big part of my life and this is a big part of that, Cannabis has become a big part of us saving Matt and I am going to be making a stand for it. Cannabis helps, Cannabis works lets make it easier to get for those who need it. If you are interested in helping Matt please feel free to donate on our home page http://lifewithmatt.wixsite.com/home every donation goes to help care for Matt to have the healthiest, happiest life.
