So what the heck is Low Blood sugar or Hypoglycemia

The opposite of high blood sugar or Diabetes, Hypoglycemia is low sugars it usually happens to those who have diabetes when they take to much insulin or miss a meal and they crash but it does happen for others as well.

Low blood sugars happen at any time and symptoms can seem to be due to other illness the only true way to find out if it is low blood sugar is blood test.

Symptoms for Hypoglycemia are

  • Shakiness

  • Nervousness or anxiety

  • Sweating, chills and clamminess

  • Irritability or impatience

  • Confusion, including delirium

  • Rapid/fast heartbeat

  • Lightheadedness or dizziness

  • Hunger and nausea

  • Sleepiness

  • Blurred/impaired vision

  • Tingling or numbness in the lips or tongue

  • Headaches

  • Weakness or fatigue

  • Anger, stubbornness, or sadness

  • Lack of coordination

  • Nightmares or crying out during sleep

  • Seizures

  • Unconsciousness

Which Matt has been having for the past while, now that I see these I can see him having all of them at different times in the past year on and off and although I have had his blood tested and it came back normal it doesn't mean he hasn't had it before now, it just means they have found out about it.

So what do we do about it? Well for now we feed him more and now bring a kit (Orange juice, snack bar or some diabetic candies) around with us where ever we go. He already eats more then I could ever eat but now he has even extra food and on schedule like Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and bed time snack with other things like chips, popcorn and what ever else thrown in for him.

So this could be the cause of his many other seizures lately and as well as his many other symptoms, low sugar is very scary to go through and can lead to unconsciousness and we need to be on top of his health and welfare even more now.

At this moment we do not need to take his blood on a daily bases at this time, how ever this could all change once we get his fasting blood work done next month, blood test will be more frequent now to make sure he is getting enough sugar in his diet. Yes more food for Matt.

So although we now have some health issues to work through we are still working on getting him to the healthiest he can be, I am not sure what will happen but I have hope that this is just a hick up and soon we will be back on track to where we want to be Matt at his healthiest.
