My step dad chooses me
The other day while having a conversation with Matt I realized how important this was to Matt. To realize that this person who helps you out every day, who is there for you, who cares for you, who helps you wash up, brush your teeth, use mouth wash, put clean clothes on, who helps you try to get into better moods, who does so much for you, choose you.
This person, my husband Mike from the moment he realized what my life consisted of choose us, he choose this life with Matt, he choose Matt.
So many times in life we take this for granted or we just don't think about the extent of what that is. As I looked at Matt and it was like a light bulb went on that it didn't matter how other's treated him for the last few years he has been chosen by someone else for the last 14 years and for the last 10 years has been here every day helping and caring for him.
Sometimes we forget to appreciate what is right in front of us so today I want to appreciate Matt's step dad, thank you for choosing us every day, thank you for all you do, thank you for never ever seeing yourself as a step day but always as their dad, thank you for loving us unconditionally, thank you for always helping out and looking for better ways to help with Matt. Most of all thank you for being you, you are amazing and I am so very grateful you choose us. We appreciate you, we love you. As I look at my husband and how he helps out in so very many ways, I am reminded of how very difficult I made it for him, how I was sure he did not want to be part of this crazy messed up life I live, how he could choose anything else and I am so very grateful that he really wanted to be with me even through my crazy messed up life, even through all the difficulties and most of all he wanted nothing more then to be the dad to all my children. I guess it takes a moment to remember that you don't have to look for someone else to give to you what you already have right here and when I saw Matt light up with that though of letting go of the past and being here in the moment he realized wow yes he had been chosen, he is wanted, he is loved, he is appreciated and he is cared for not just by him mom and sisters but by the man who has chosen to be his dad.
Love is a good place to be.
