What can you watch

There are some movies and shows that Matt just can not watch and let me tell you why.

Matt sometimes has a difficult time understand what is real and what is not, it is part of his disability, part of the pharmaceutical drugs and yes part of epilepsy.

Due to this we all have to be on board with what he can watch. Sometimes before you are even aware however he is in the room watching something that is not so good for him, this can turn so bad, like he can start believing there is someone living in the walls or that someone is out to get us or worse.

Sometimes its easy to get him back to realizing that, the thing he watched was not true, sometimes it takes a lot longer and we can be going days and days with him in this delusion. Sometimes it is just funny silly things that are not harmful and other times there are times where he is so into it he becomes violent and harmful to himself.

What you watch matters

For myself I can not watch drama shoes, violent shoes or anything scary, being empathic these types of shows take a toll on me so I stay away from them as much as I can, this includes new and talk shows. So I understand first hand how things like these can affect Matt who is also empathic and has a difficult time with reality sometimes. Not only not know what feelings are him but also getting lost in what is real and what is imaginary.

Most of the time we like him watching funny shows and movies like Shrek, MIB, Blues Brothers, Austin Powers, the run down, and other funny ones, something that is funny and keeps him laughing. These movies are so much fun for him even if he has watched them a million times or more.

So what do we do when Matt does watch something he is not supposed to? He becomes very much so in his head thinking this thing or things are real, he will begin focusing on them, he will stop believing what we say and he will get to a point where he will only listen to me and only I can calm him down. While everyone else will just say things that upset him no matter what it is they are saying.

So to help him we stay away from those types of shows and movies for him and watch them when he is not around, when he is sleeping or busy watching his own movies.

Are you aware of what you are watching that may be creating something different in you? Start paying attention you will never know till you do.
